Water rates

Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Good afternoon,
On behalf of Commissioner Tim Lee I am forwarding information that was sent to the Commissioner from Kathy Nguyen, Water Efficiency Program Manager, Cobb County Water System.
Kathy Nguyen reported:
"At the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority's Board Meeting yesterday they approved a rate adjustment of $.50/1,000 gallons of water to be effective on October 1, 2008."   This is of significance because CCMWA is our water wholesaler.
Commissioner Lee wants to inform you that Cobb County Water System and the Cobb County Board of Commissioners have made no final decision on rate adjustments.  We annually review our rates and make the needed adjustments to provide affordable and reliable service and maintain our fiscal stability.  The cost of wholesale water is one consideration when adjusting our rates to meet costs and proactively maintain our system.
Following this message is a story that was run in the Atlanta Journal Constitution today and being reported on WSB TV.

Thank you.
Millie Rogers, Commission Assistant

Tim Lee, Commissioner, District 3

Water rates going up

Water rates across much of Atlanta's northern and western suburbs will increase by at least $3.25 monthly for the average family, beginning in October.
Blaming rapid increases in fuel and construction costs, the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority on Monday voted for the increase, about 50 cents per thousand gallons.  The increase includes a previously approved increase of 15 cents per thousand gallons that was to have taken effect next January.
